Intern Edmonton Social Planning Council, Member of the CAPS Mentorship Program (University of Alberta) October 2013 – Present

Critically analyzing current municipal and provincial social policies to reduce poverty.

Actively working with Edmonton’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Working Group, I participate in general meetings.

Build and present recommendations to Edmonton Social Planning Council and Edmonton’s City Council.

Research Assistant School of Public Health, University of Alberta, PACE-’Omics: Personalized, Accessible, Cost-Effective Applications of ‘Omics Technologies Summer 2013

Creating and employing a systematic search strategy to scan governmental, non-governmental, research funder, patient organization, and think tank websites to uncover terminology currently used for personalized medicine. I created synonym lists and a matrix to communication which countries were using which terminology and to what extent some terms were used more often than others. From this information, the broader research project can develop and assess working definitions for future scans and systematic reviews.

Intern City of Edmonton/Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Member of the ‘Opening the Potential’ Mentorship Program Municipal Government City Hall, Edmonton, Alberta August 2012 – March 2013

Daily tasks included attending meetings, forums, and other political responsibilities at city hall.

Organizing professional development workshops put on for other mentees in the program.

Research Assistant (Satellite) Systematic Review of the Literature on Environmental Health Risk Communication University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba September 2011 – March 2013

Collection and revision of full texts on the concept of uncertainty in environmental health risk communication in conjunction with the research team.

Research Assistant H1N1 Knowledge Translation for Pregnant Women and Seniors: Sources, Content, Understanding and Uptake School of Public Health University of Alberta November 2011 – January 2013

Responsible for coding transcripts (using NVIVO qualitative analysis software) from focus groups with pregnant women about their information and understanding of H1N1 and their vaccination decisions, and assisted in analyzing findings and preparing manuscripts for publication.

Grant Writer Impact Evaluation of Community Midwives in Rural Balochistan Province in Pakistan University of Alberta February 2013

Writing the rationale and the proposed impact evaluation methods, I developed a logic model for the evaluated program, the project’s budget, and the research timeline. Our grant application was accepted as the winner in this competitive grant process.

 Team Member Heroes for Health Research Competition University of Alberta October 2011 – Present

Our team proposed to develop a knowledge sharing and access network, Health E-Connections, for mental health initiatives on the University of Alberta campus.  The team has since continued to liaise with campus mental health initiatives, the Health Promotion and Work Life Services office, and the International Student Office to implement and launch our network proposal.

Research Assistant Marine Turtle Monitoring and Tagging Program Institute of Tropical Ecology and Conservation, Bocas del Toro, Panama Apr 2008 – May 2008

Attended various remote field locations to survey sea turtle tracks and nesting patterns on beaches as well as collect biometric information and tag nesting turtles.
